The Chophouse Grille is nothing short of an amazing experience. From the moment you enter the door you are elevated to a higher class of dining. The interior is so beautifully done, and the ambiance is so peaceful, you will be coming back again and again.
We have come here many Sundays in a row to take advantage of their wonderful football game bar specials. During these games (and during happy hour) draft beer is buy one get one free, and what brings us in, the wings are .50 cents each. These are not your typical bar wings, nor is the bar at Chophouse your typical bar. Let me begin by saying how wonderful the staff is. The bar tenders are some of the friendliest most attentive we have ever come by. Simply put, these guys are awesome. When the wings come out they are perfectly plated and the presentation is the best we have ever seen of wings. The wing is extremely crispy, cooked to perfection. The sauce in obviously house made and tastes great. They are the perfect size and very meaty. For the price there is no better you can get then this. The bar tenders keep the drinks flowing and the TV's on football. For a nice relaxing evening of watching football with some good friends, it gets no better then The Chophouse Grille. These are easily the best wings a restaurant in Mahopac has to offer, perhaps even the best in Putnam County. Chophouse offers a full menu of beautifully plated items and has a large dining room with an amazing atmosphere. We give Chophouse a 9 out of 10. Well it's that time of the year again wing fans. We have officially kicked off our brand new 2012 Wing Tour and we started it off with a bang! We visited Stanziato's Wood Fired Pizza located in Danbury, CT. Stanziato's has been reviewed by the NY Times and is one of the top 100 Pizzerias in the USA. They use only fresh local ingredients We heard through the grape-vine that Stanziato's had some truly unique wood fired wings and we had to check em out. Upon arrival we were greeted by a super friendly staff. We waited for our table for 8 and were seated. The dining room is a really great art-deco designed room. Tons of interesting piece sof art hanging on the walls, a very welcoming room. We ordered both flavor wings they offer, along with a few pizza's. We had the Garlic Citrus Herb wings and the Traditional styled Hot Sauce wings. The wings are baked next to a wood fire and it produces a really great wing. Included is a side of blue cheese sauce and that is made in house. The Wings alone are really amazing. They are crispy with a smokey wood fired flavor. The Garlic Citrus was a wonderful sauce, the flavors really came together for a great wing. I really loved their traditional buffalo style sauce, it was clearly made in house and is one of my favorite wing sauces I've had to date. It had the perfect amount of spice. The blue cheese was excellent, there is nothing better than a nice home made blue cheese. I would highly recommend a visit to Stanziato's. Not only were the wings some of the best I have ever had but the pizza is just as amazing. I'm giving Stanziato's a rating of 9 out of 10. All photo's taken with Samsung Galaxy Nexus Cell Phone Camera. We did not identify ourselves to the Stanziato's staff. All our review are done honestly and anonymously. We were recently lucky enough to have a chance to taste a new soup not even on the store shelves yet. Campbell's sent us a couple cans of their new Kickin' Buffalo-Style Chicken soup. I have to say right out of the box I loved this idea. Those of us who absolutely love chicken wings drenched in that classic hot sauce only dreamt of a soup that captured that essence. The can design looks great, got my attention right away and I cracked the soup open...
My first impressions are wow they did a great job with the broth flavor. It tastes similar to a Buffalo style hot sauce. The texture is great, it's creamy, very creamy! It's loaded with chicken and vegetables and more. They market this as the "soup that eats like a meal" and they hit that right on the head, this is filling! Wing lovers, when you see this in your stores soup section grab it! It is a must try for wing lovers and soup lovers alike. We can not wait to have some more! A classic case of never judge a book by its cover. The Hobnobbin Pub is an old, rustic looking building located just outside of the heart of Poughkeepsie, on Vassar Road. The inside of this establishment is very home style and warm and welcoming. We were quickly seated and treated to very fast and friendly service. The dining room is however extremely quiet. Some music would have broken the awkward silence. Obviously this is by no means a problem of any sort and the food would soon become music to my mouth!
We each ordered a burger and a small order of wings. We had the "Hotter" sauce and requested a side of the "Hottest" sauce. The wings are perfectly sized and even more perfectly cooked. The real star of the night was the homemade sauces. Our Hotter sauce was delicious. It was unlike any traditional wing sauce I've ever had, there were tons of peppers and other flavors perfectly combined in this sauce. The heat was good as well, the Hottest sauce left a burn on my tongue for moments after I had finished eating, just how we like it. My burger was also incredible. A large patty of meat, with bacon lettuce tomato on a fresh bun. Very thick and very juicy. It was pretty clear why both the wings and burgers, are award winning at Hobnobbin. Hey if you guys are in the Poughkeepsie area, or even if you're not, Hobnobbin is worth the trip. The "Hottest" sauce was one of the best sauces I have ever tasted! I am giving Hobnobbin, the top score so far- an 8.7 out of 10. 8.7 out of 10 How we got wind that this establishment had amazing wings is beyond me but our wing research is what drove us to this fine dining experience. When I say fine dining I mean it in every way possible. Walking in wearing jeans and a sweatshirt made me feel extremely under-dressed when looking around I observed men in suits and ties and women in dresses. We were seated right away and could not wait to try these wings.
The staff is wonderful here, the friendliest experience we have encountered on the tour. The prices however were not so friendly. The plate of wings is very expensive for the amount we received but I had to grin and bear it, the review was a necessity! The view however was priceless. Half Moon is directly on the Hudson River, any closer to the water and we would be swimming! The wings were served fairly quickly. They come with celery, carrots, and blue cheese dip. It seemed to be a small serving size. The sauce on these wings was out of this world. They only have one flavor choice here and they nail it. It was on of the most flavorful buffalo sauces I have ever had. The wings were cripsy and juicy, cooked perfect. The blue cheese was not the best i've had however it was not bad at all. For the casual diner I would recommend a wings and burgers lunch here at Half Moon. The burger was incredible and the outside views are amazing. Due to the high prices and small plate of wings, I am giving Half Moon an 8.2 out of 10! please note the photo's are not my photo's they are from Half Moons website. On this day we were all excited to have some Big W's, a well known BBQ Joint in Wingdale. However we did not realize they were closed on Tuesdays. Oh well we thought we will try a place on the way home. What would you know we approached a sign on rt 52 in Kent in front of a restaurant that read ".50 Cent Wing Day" well if that isn't fate I don't know what is, looks like we found ourselves this weeks review.
Healy's is the old Maria Bonita's, and old Mexican Restaurant that never seemed busy. They slightly redesigned the interior and it looked great. We were seated right away and we all ordered the same thing, Chili and Wings. The chili was great, very meaty, very tasty. The rest of the menu had some great sounding options but we could not wait to try the wings. Healy's had a great sauce selection, which as we know is a good sign. I went with tradition hot buffalo sauce, and spicy mango habanero. Some of the wings seemed to be over cooked which was a big let down. The mango habanero I must say tasted great and was very spicy. I love when sauces are spicy as advertised, often they are not. The hot sauce was not as spicy but it was very flavorful. My recommendation is if you're in the neighborhood stop by Healy's, the menu seems great, try the wings see how you like them. I'm giving them a 7 out of 10. Nestled about 5 miles west of the Hudson RIver, in the rustic town of Clintondale, New York, is the Family owned restaurant known as Primo's. Primo's has been in business over 60 years, we knew there had to be something good going on here. After months of puting it off (due to the distance from us) we finally loaded up the car, headed north, and crossed the river. Primo's had been known for their freshly made classic pizza pies and their many other extensive menu items. From wings and burgers, to mouth watering steaks, it seems they had it all. This night would be extra special, we were joined by our friend, chef, and fellow food lover, All Smoked Up BBQ & Catering's, Rob VanVorrhis along side his wife. It was going to be a great night. We finally arrived and presented with the overwhelming list of wing flavors, time to get our wing on...
Over 20 flavors to choose from, wow, that's what we like to see. The first sign of a place that is serious about their wings is the flavor list. Many interesting choices here from a regular mild sauce, to their Hell sauce, a dry rub called Alabama BBQ, and many more unique choices. Primo's opened up their kitchen to us, were we observed their cook, creating some of our sauces over the oven. The first flavor we tried was the traditional buffalo hot. It had a great taste to it, the heat was there however I would have enjoyed a little more spice, it was an excellent flavor. The Alabama BBQ is a dry rub of delicious spices. It was covering a perfectly cooked, extra crispy wing. Nick, a member of our Wing Crew, went for the Honey Mustard wings. It worked way better then I expected, it was sweet and savory, a unique honey mustard flavor. The star of the night was the Parmesan Garlic. These wings were a work of art. the chicken was covered in a garlicky butter sauce, and then matted with a layer of parmesan cheese and fresh garlic. All of the orders came with a cup of blue cheese, and a nice portion of celery. The blue cheese was your standard blue cheese dip. We were all extremely happy with our wings. They were all cooked perfectly, and heavily sauced. The size of the wing was the average wing size, not small by any means, very meaty. It was a hectic night at Primo's. Seemed to be dart league night. The service was good and the people working here were very friendly and made us feel right at home. Rob brought his camera out tonight and took some beautiful photo's for us to use, they came out great. Everything was great tonight. If you're in the area check out Primo's Bar & Grill. I'm giving Primo's an 8 out of 10. A Word from Craig: Its unique to see an extensive flavor selection but primos knows how to do it well . The flavor choices are great and by ordering a flavor in intervals of 6 you really get to experience what they have to offer . Crispy wings cooked and sauced (or seasoned) just right is what we like to see and primos pays attention to the quality they are putting out for there customer. Verdict: 8 out of 10 A Quicky from Rob: http://www.porkbelliesbbqblog.com/2012/03/primos-bar-grill-clintondale-ny.html Primo's on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Primos-Bar-and-Grill/134593779897204 Let me get something out of the way before we get in to the wings... This place is 99.9% different then most the other places on our list. With that being said, "Q" is unforgettable. That is a very good thing, I plan on returning here again and again to sample everything on their menu. Q serves the style of food I think every wing lover, loves... Barbecue. Both of us over at Wing Tour love BBQ and are avid BBQ eaters. However there is nothing we enjoy more then wings. Lets get into it!
Q's wings came in a wonderful platter. With them includes your choice of two sides and a corn muffin. These wings are unlike any other I have ever had, and honestly I thought they were too different to be on this tour. However I realized this was a great way to show the diversity of chicken wing styles. The way Q does it is they give you entire wing pieces. The sections are not separated, it is up to us to pull apart the meat. The wings are glazed in a delicious, in house made BBQ sauce. It is a perfect wing BBQ sauce, delicious with a hint of heat. The meat was smoked perfectly, not a heavy smoke but just enough to leave a slight smoke flavor along with the sauce. They also give you a lot. A heaping portion of food is presented to you. More then filled me up. It's nice to get that amount of food these days. I almost forgot the Blue Cheese was awesome. Possibly another made in house creation, very chunky and tasty. Beyond the wings Q had plenty more to offer. The Iced Tea, served in take home mason jars, was home made to perfection. The pulled pork was on point, tender and juicy. We also sampled a few of their sides. I was very pleased with the potato salad. It was extremely smooth with chunks of peppers and onions mixed in, a great combination. The mac and cheese was in a unique cheese sauce that had a nice taste, however I personally like it a little thicker then it was. I must say the sweet potato fries are perhaps the best I have ever had. I would return solely for these fries! The final item I tasted was the corn bread. It is hard to find a good corn bread and this ranks the number 2 corn bread I have ever had (AllSmokedUp Catering being number 1) It was extra sweet and wonderfully flavored. The atmosphere was incredible. Monday is live music night. A perfect playlist of music was being played, I could have thought I was really in the south. At Q you order at the counter after you decide what you will be dining on. After just a short wait your food is brought to you seated at your table. It is a very fast system and it worked well. The service was excellent, not a single complaint here. One feature every wing joint should have, was a sticky finger station, a pedal operated sing and motion sensor paper towels, right on the main floor, how perfect! I want to be 100% clear on this- Q Restaurant is an amazing place serving perfectly cooked, spiced and flavored BBQ food. With heaping portions, no one will go home hungry. These wings are unlike the traditional buffalo wing, however it was a great eating experience, and I'm giving them an 8.2 out of 10. Verdict- 8.2 out of 10 and beyond great wings, the food and atmosphere create a must try experience. Sitting in such a great location overlooking the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Beautiful Hudson River, is perfectly named, Bridgeview Tavern. Bridgeview is Family operated and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The menu has some fine dining style items along with your usuals. This was our second visit here and time for the official review!
The wings come in a variety of flavors, Classic Buffalo (Hot or Mild), BBQ, Buffa-Q, and Sweet Thai Chili. Mondays happen to be Wing Night (50 Cent Wings) so tonight we sampled every flavor. The wings are "House Smoked" however this is a tease because they don't have a smokey flavor. The wings are perfectly sized and they are cooked well. The flavors are excellent. The Traditional Buffalo seems to be your usual Franks Red Hot custom mix. The hot ones are at the perfect heat level and other wing joints should take notes. The Buffa-Q is a blend of Buffalo and BBQ and it is a match made in heaven. The two sauces combined creates a signature sauce you can not find anywhere else. The sweet Thai Chili is exactly as it seems, sweet and very oriental tasting, it was amazing. All the sauces are very thick and stay on the wings well. For a great time with great food, we highly recommend Bridgeview Tavern. It is the textbook definition of the essential Hudson Valley Eatery. Excellent food and amazing wings...we give Bridgeview our best rating of this years tour yet, an 8.5 out of 10. Verdict: 8.5 out of 10 check them out @ http://bridgeviewtavern.com/ |
